That time my Instagram account was deleted. And a free photo book too!

If you follow me over on Instagram (@tissespieces) then you know that my account was deactivated a few weeks ago. Long story short, one morning I just woke up and my Instagram account was deleted. I had 8 identical automated emails in my inbox saying that a photo had beed reported for "violating Instagram's policies" and that the photo had been deleted. These emails all came in around 4am so by the time I woke up and checked my email, my account was already gone.

I don't keep up with this blog quite as much as I'd like to these last few months but Instagram is kind of like a little daily photo journal of sorts for me. So to have lost my pictures and most importantly, my words, it sucked. Like really bad.

Anyway, hashtags were created, emails were sent and after four days my account was out of nowhere reinstated. I've never received any kind of message from Instagram saying what went down on their end of things, all I know is that my account is back now. So strange. The way I understand it, the system that Instagram uses to police accounts is quite flawed. Any user can report images as being inappropriate and there isn't an adequate check system in place to ensure these photos aren't being wrongfully flagged (with the intention of deleting someone's account). Sad, but true. (You can find a link here to a petition to change Instagram's censorship guidelines, here.)

I learned three things from this ordeal. 1) I have some truly beautiful souls rallying in my corner over on that little app. Real friendships and connections are being forged, it's amazing really. 2) We are one. And we can accomplish some pretty big things when we band together. 3) Save your memories!

If you were involved in the bring back effort of my account, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

So turns out that kind of was a long story. Moving on...

As soon as my account was reinstated the first thing I did was back it up. I used Instaport as a digital back up option and Chatbooks as a hardcopy backup option. The books from Chatbooks are perfect because they are generated automatically with every 60 instaposts you make (although you can edit them as needed) and each book is only 6 bucks...with free shipping! And the best feature of Chatbooks- they print all of your captions for you as well! Wahoo!

I posted about Chatbooks on my Instagram account a week or so ago and they've since contacted me with a coupon code to pass around where you can get the first book in your Instagram series for FREE! You can use code "TISSE1" at checkout to claim your free book. High five! I really couldn't be more excited to help spread the word about such a great product that I really believe in. Take it from me, save your memories, friends. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments section :)

    1. Oh they totally are! I don't print nearly as many photos as I should... its a problem, really. In fact, the most recent photos in my house of Na are from when she was 11 months old. Sad, but true :( And I'm so glad to be back as well.. I had no idea how attached I was to that little collection of photos and words of my girl until it was gone.... heres to keeping that account backed up... and to getting back on the keep-the-blog-updated game plan!

    1. haha WORD! I am totally one of those people with a chipped nail polish pet peeve, and it translates into me never ever painting my nails because once they get chipped it drives me absolutely nuts! So here is this photo of my chipped nails to live on for all eternity here in the blogosphere. I'm calling it therapy... ;)
