I'm about to add crazy chicken lady to my rap sheet.

Lets talk about chickens. I've been hitting the books about chicken raising like I'm studying up for a big exam and after hours of web scouring and chatting it up with a few chicken rearing ladies, I've decided to take the plunge. And my girl holding some fluffy baby chicks?! Come on. So, so great. That being said, six baby chicks (5 different breeds) have been ordered and will be heading our way around the second week of May. I'm hoping this will give us (and by us I mean Chris and my dad) plenty of time to get a dreamy coop together (plus from what I've read the chicks need to be inside(ish) for the first 6 weeks or so as well). Just one more reason to look forward to summer. I'm jacked. I'm sure my enthusiasm will wane significantly come next winter and I'm cleaning chicken poop in subzero temperatures but you know. If anyone reading this happens to be an aficionado of egg collecting, I encourage you to drop me a line with some tips & tricks of the craft.

If you're looking into some backyard chickens of your own I found the following links to be quite informative and helpful. Here, here, here and here.

And now some drool worthy coops to get your creative, chicken raising juices flowing. All photos via my Pinterest chicken board, here. (Yes, I have an entire Pinterest board devoted to chickens...)

  1. holy chicken coop PRECIOUSNESS. See ours is going to be so urban and little that none of these can even register in my mind. But still, my chickens will delight in the fact that they have chicken cousins up north living the country life, and when they get together they can be the cool city chicks.

  2. Wowzer!! I ❤ those coops!! I'm dying to get some chicks (especially after seeing so many on IG), but the cats around here wouldn't be nice. I totally need to follow you on Pinterest. Maybe I can find you?

    1. I'm planning on having a chicken yard area that is fully fenced in chicken wire top and bottom so hopefully that keeps any critters at bay! I linked to my chicken board in this post, I think you'll be able to find me from there... I seriously have NO clue how to use pinterest in a social context... just making boards lol I need to read up on a pinterest tutorial or something I'm so clueless!
