When she misses her dad.

Chris and Navi have this thing that they do during the weekdays where they send selfies to one another and text back and forth. Usually after nap time she tells me she wants to "tets daddy" and I'll pull up his message screen and she will send him some jumbled up letters and he will respond with a picture of himself. Her face lights up every single time and then she wants to take a picture to send to him. This goes back and forth for five minutes of so and it makes me all kinds of happy and a bit sad for her at the same time. Today she did something entirely different and I could've just cried.

She asked to see a picture of daddy on my phone so I showed her one of the selfies he sent to her the day before. Then she carried "daddy" all around with her for a good two hours. He ate breakfast with her, washed dishes with her, played kitchen with her and then she took him up in her fort to read books and go down the slide. If she hadn't been so darn happy with her pseudo-dad I definitely would've been a sobbing mess on the floor. She was obviously really missing her dad today and luckily Chris was able to take an extra long lunch break and meet up with us for some playtime at a local children's center.

I'd say that Chris's work hours are on the high end of average and even though most days we get by just fine on our own until 5:45 rolls around, its days like today that I really hate his job.... or really any job for that matter. I vote for a radical change to the standard work cycle. A perpetual weekend, yes, that's what I'm looking for. Or even a compromise of retirement for the first half of life while the kids are young and then working once their grown. Pipedreams, for sure. I guess I'll  just make pancakes on a Thursday to make it feel like a Sunday and settle for a midday family play session... because that's not so bad either I suppose.

  2. So I thought her daily texting and selfie exchanges was the cutest, and then she had to go top it with carrying his picture around. Heartwarming and breaking all at once! What a sweet, sweet girl.

    1. So her new thing is having "pretent" little versions of everyone to carry around with her. She asks me to give her pretend Gagas and Papas and Daddys and she holds them tight in her little fist while she goes about her day. Its SO stinking sweet!
