That time we made elderberry syrup.

So we decided this week that it was time to get out of this cold weather and head to Florida for a little family vacay. This will be our first trip together as a family of three and I am soooo excited. And nervous. And pumped up. Oh, and did I mention nervous?! I'm trying my best to be a calm and collected parent but the pre-traveling jitters are definitely getting to me. One of the things that I'm annoyingly freaking out about is airplane germs. And hotel germs. I'm a bit of a self diagnosed germaphobe of sorts (although you'd never know it if you looked at the sink in my bathroom...) and I so don't want this trip to put us in sick-ville. Just to give you an idea of my level of devotion to this war-on-germs-whilst-traveling issue that I have, I line my hotel bed with a modified cocoon of sorts called a Dreamsack. Yeah, I'm that girl. (Side note: if you're that girl too, you can find your very own cocoon of a Dreamsack, here. So worth it!;)

So, yeah. Germs...

Navi and I made our own elderberry syrup in preparation for our travels and I'm crossing my fingers (but not my toes- that might cancel out the finger crossing...) that in addition to OnGuard and lots of hand washing, it helps to keep the sicks away. I found this recipe on the OhDearDrea blog. The recipe makes around a pint or so of elderberry syrup and it is sooo much cheaper than buying it at a health food store. And in case you're wondering, we give Navi a half teaspoon daily and Chris and I take one tablespoon daily.

You can find the recipe along with links to various ingredients in Drea's post, here.

Wish us luck on our travels, Florida here we come! :)

  1. Good luck!! And while each and every cheap motel that we've stayed at this past month I've hoped that I don't get bed bugs, that's about as far as my germaphobia goes... I gotta say we just ain't twinsies on this. I think I just don't have the patience!

    1. Yeahhhh.... its a major problema. Good to know I'm not alone! Like sleeping in a cocoon at hotels?! who does that?! I think that would fall under the "disruption to everyday activities" tab for realsss!
