That time I cried at a restaurant and a random link list.

We went out to dinner on Saturday at a local Mexican restaurant. Navi was enjoying her from-home green beans, peas and strawberries as well as about a pound of rice. Then the guacamole came. This girl of mine has never met a green food she didn't like so of course she wanted to try it. I gave her a little chip with some guacamole on it and that was the start of me crying at the table. In a Saturday-night-crowded restaurant.  Lets backtrack a bit...

Since Navi was a nonverbal, teeny tiny baby, I have always told her "thanks mom" or "thank you" whenever I give her something...just to reinforce that when someone does something for you, you thank them. Recently I have been working on asking her to say please for things. She would say "more" and I would say "more please" and then she would say "peez". In the last few weeks she has started putting two words together at a time (this is beyond exciting!) so now when I say "more please" she says "more...peez" and I gotta tell ya, that little girl could get just about whatever she wants from me with those two little words. Anyway, I've gotten one unsolicited please so far (but no thank you's yet) and it was such a wonderful feeling to hear the fruits of your labor paying off in the the sweetest sing-song-voice sort of way. And now back to the restaurant...

So I gave her a chip with guacamole on it and when I handed it to her she looked me right in the eye before she took a bite and said "dank ouu." My mom looked at me open-mouthed, I grabbed hold of my chest to make sure my heart wasn't exploding clear out of it... and then I cried. Because I'm a sap. And because it was so beautiful. And because as a mama your day is never over, and even when you get to sleep its not ever for very long...the days can be trying and the nights can be exhausting. And because hearing that baby of yours thank you for the first time is just pure magic. Its validation for a job well done, and a magic eraser to any of the days misgivings. She may have been just thanking me for a chip, but it sure felt like a lot more than that.

Everyone clapped, I kissed her and told her what a good girl she was. And in true toddler fashion, she  course had to one-up herself about 2 minutes later when I gave her another guacamole chip..."danks, Mama!" You are so very welcome, sweet girl. The pleasure is all mine.

And now for some randomness...

Obviously this blog is not fashion/product centered blog. As evidence of this, 90% of my wardrobe consists of yoga pants, Salvation Army hoodies/tees and t-shirts from the Target men's section. (But seriously, the Target men's section? Killin it! If you're not following @targetdoesitagain on Instagram you mayyyy wanna check into it.) That being said, I do appreciate a nice find (both clothing related and otherwise). And even though I really consider this blog to be a little online scrapbook of sorts, and I've only shared a few product-related-posts, I really do love me a good random link list. So here goes...

These southwestern printed leggings for Navi. (I wish they came in my size. Crying face.)

Navi is loving these dried peas. She is super into anything with a crunch for snack time... these are tasty and healthy and any snack time that is sans-puffs is a pat-yourself-on-the-back worth occasion.

I want to get her these moccasins for the fall.

I recently got her this slide for indoor use. To say that she loves it is an understatement.

Old Navy is really stepping up their game right now. I know! I want to get this dress for Navi... and because I'm totally "that mom", I want to get this shirt for myself :) (Also, they are having a 20% off sale with the coupon code "ONTREAT" until 9/18.)

I recently read this post about maca and hormone regulation? Its an interesting read. Hmmm... (Side note: from the reading I've done it seems that the gelatinized version of maca (its vegan) is perhaps a better choice for digestibility over the raw version...I've never tried either, this is just what Dr. Google tells me.)

I reallllyyyy want to make these spinach and artichoke sandwiches. The pictures are salivate-at your-screen worthy for sure!

I just ran across this Learning Tower and I think it will make such an awesome addition to our embarrassing arsenal of baby stuff. Navi loveloveloves to help out around the house. Feeding the dogs, washing dishes, carrying laundry, if I have a job for her, she's a happy camper. Currently, I let her stand on a chair to reach the kitchen counter but I'm constantly a nervous wreck that she will fall off and get hurt. Soooo I think this Learning Tower will make for a much more relaxing and enjoyable kitchen helping expereince. The downside to it is that its ridiculously expensive...the upside is that I found one on Craigslist for 75% off retail. High five. I haven't picked it up yet but I'm pretty pumped about it.

Also, I like to think of myself as a bit of an online shopping connoisseur...the UPS man is a regular round these parts. The truth is I can usually find things for a lot cheaper online than I can in the store...and with free shipping, it really makes it a no brainer. So from my online-shopping-bag-of-tricks to yours, if you are shopping online and you're not using Ebates, you are really missing out. I've been using their service for a few years now and its seriously exciting stuff. You sign up with your email address and you get cash back when you shop online. No catch. They just send you a check every few months. Seriously! The percentage you get back varies from store to store and all you have to do is click the store's site link through the Ebates page. Easy squeezey!

    1. Thank you so much, what a sweet thing to say :) Its certainly a work in progress... I've tried my best to just make it part of the routine of things I say to her (she says "More" and I say "More, please") and just hope that she picks up on it. Every time she says "please" or "dinks" unsolicitedly, I about melt into a puddle :)

  3. Aahhh!!! So much to comment on! First of all, I love that you cried in the restaurant. How sweet are you? The sweetest... And so is Navi. :) You must be doing something right, Momma. I love your pictures, especially the one with you in her eyes. :) Love the randomness, too... leggings, moccasins, Old Navy stuff -- Awesome. I totally pinned those spinach and artichoke sandwiches awhile back. Yummy! High five on the tower... So cool. :) And I have got to check out Ebates. Thanks for the reminder! Happy week, friend! :)

    1. Haha I don't know Leah, you may be the sweetest :) I totally bought the leggings and the Old Navy stuff by the way and I'm pretty pumped about it! And the sandwiches? I made them. They rock. I'll add more garlic and parmesan next time, but they rock. And yes, if you do a lot of online shopping (or even just a little, really), Ebates is soooo worth the 10 seconds it takes to set up an account :)

    1. Haha yeah my mailman has never made a comment but I'm sure he's thinking about it. As are our neighbors who see the UPS truck come down our driveway on the regular. So the Learning Tower... DO IT! I ended up getting an even better score from the used listing and Navi absolutely LOVES IT! Its so nice not having to hover over her and she gets to be up on my level... its a win win!
